Sunday, 19 July 2009 18:59 by Mike

Initial Problem:

Primary OS is Vista, secondary XP (virtual machine). There is an internet connection on Vista (Wireless). User need an internet access on XP. On Virtual machine there is an error states: "limited or no connectivity".

Troubleshooting process:

After comparison ipconfig configuration from both operating system, defined that XP has APIPA ip address (Automatic Private IP Addressing).
Both Vista and XP have "obtain ip address automatically" option selected in TCP/IPv4 properties.

 Solution:

After some investigation have found that Virtual PC emulates an Intel 21140-Based PCI Fast Ethernet adapter and it should be “mapping” to the Wireless adapter on the host PC.

Suggest user to perform the following actions:

1. Shut down Virtual machine.
2. Highlight the Virtual Machine in the Virtual PC console and click on Settings.
3. Highlight Networking on the left. Set it to Shared Networking (NAT).

After that, an internet connection on XP machine appeared.
